North Corfu Municipality - coordinator of Network of European Cities GreenMove Programme
CORFU. With an honorary distinction and a score of 93%, GreenMove was selected from among hundreds of proposals, highlighting its potential and importance for the future of rural areas in Europe.
The Municipality of North Corfu is delighted and proud to announce its successful participation as the lead and coordinating partner in a pan-European project that brings together 17 municipalities and organisations from across Europe. The project, which falls under the European Union's "Citizens, Equality, Rights, and Values" (CERV) programme, is titled GreenMove and aims to enhance sustainable mobility in rural and coastal areas through the implementation of low-emission zones and the promotion of sustainable development practices.

The initiative of the Municipality of North Corfu plays a key role in coordinating the project, which will focus on the exchange of ideas and strengthening collaboration among municipalities and organisations. The goal is to improve mobility, reduce pollution and promote social inclusion.
Objectives of the GreenMove Project
GreenMove aims to:
- Facilitate the exchange of best practices.
- Organise seminars and workshops.
- Utilise new technologies to foster change and improve living conditions in rural and coastal areas.
Through innovative actions, the project will promote sustainable development in coastal communities, emphasising low-emission zones and environmental protection. GreenMove also focuses on promoting gender equality, social inclusion, and increased citizen participation in the democratic life of the European Union.

Purpose of the CERV Program
Launched in 2021 and running until 2027, the CERV programme supports open, democratic, and inclusive societies based on the rights and values of the European Union. By fostering civil society engagement and promoting political and social participation, CERV aims to strengthen European diversity and shared values.
Official Launch of GreenMove
The official launch of the GreenMove project will take place in February 2025, with the Municipality of North Corfu hosting partners for a three-day event full of activities, networking, and idea exchange. The project will last 18 months and is expected to have a significant impact on improving sustainable mobility in rural and coastal areas across Europe.

Its primary goal is to promote sustainable development by creating models for sustainable urban development that can serve as references for other regions facing similar challenges. Through innovative solutions, the Municipality of North Corfu contributes to this change by developing and implementing strategies for sustainable coastal and rural development.
