CORFU. The new stream is for building materials.

(North Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of North Corfu is taking dynamic steps to strengthen the circular economy by activating its 17th recycling stream, which involves the collection of construction materials from small-scale works, with the aim of reusing them in rural roadworks.

This is yet another initiative that combines environmental responsibility with practical benefits for local infrastructure, reducing the volume of waste while also conserving natural resources.

PLACEMENT OF SPECIAL ORANGE BINS:

Ten orange bins for collecting construction materials have already been placed at the following locations:

  • Recycling Point in Acharavi

  • Recycling Point in Kassiopi

  • Recycling Point in Sidari

  • Kouloura

  • Kavvadades (Beretas area)

Collection is carried out using a specialised chain-lift vehicle, and the materials are transported to a construction waste crusher. The resulting material is then used to improve rural roads in the municipality.

The programme will soon be expanded with the placement of additional bins in other municipal districts.

Integrated Waste Management:

At the same time, the claw-type vehicle (“clam shell”) continues its bulky waste and pruning collection efforts. These aim to reduce the environmental footprint of such waste, which due to its size and handling requirements needs special treatment, while also improving the visual and functional image of the Municipality.

A Comprehensive System of 17 Recycling Streams:

This new stream is part of an innovative and multi-dimensional system of 17 different recycling streams implemented by the Municipality of North Corfu, with key objectives:

  • the rational management of waste

  • the protection of the environment

  • the improvement of citizens’ daily lives
