Head count of passengers, who include young children

The search is still continuing for anyone who may be unaccounted for.

Ambulances are taking any passengers who are in need of first aid and at 11:00 three had been taken to Corfu Hospital and a baby is also expected to be taken there for precautionary reasons.

A team from EODY is at the port and is conducting rapid tests on the passengers. If anyone is found to be positive, they will be taken to a quarantine hotel, whilst the others will be taken to other hotels and accommodation.





Talking to reporters, one of the passengers said that the fire had been spotted at 02:30. Others spoke of the unsuccessful efforts of the crew to contain the fire. They said that the order to evacuate the ship had been given immediately after the efforts failed.

By chance, an Italian Frontex ship, which had been docked in Corfu over the last few days, was nearby and immediately came to their aid.

At 11:00 firefighters were still fighting to extinguish the fire.
