CORFU. The 2nd Vocational High School was broken into, highlighting the lack of security when the school is closed.
The 2nd Vocational High School principal Anastasios Sgouros told Enimerosi that the incident took place on Tuesday night, when unknown persons got into the building by breaking the main entrance.
The following morning, teachers found desks in a classroom blackened by smoke canisters, a burnt curtain and broken glass. Mr. Sgouros said that the damage was done by people who were not pupils and pointed out that the building remains unguarded for 16 hours when there are no classes. "I have informed the Education Department and have proposed that we at least have an alarm system as the school is located in an isolated area," he said.
According to the principal, the police were informed on the next day, Wednesday, so that the incident could be recorded, although no charges have been filed.
