CORFU. Waste Watch Corfu has hit out at the Regional Administration for not requesting environmental pollution measurements following the fire at Temploni landfill as they had done for Cephalonia.

Waste Watch Corfu issued a statement following the decision by the Ionian Islands Regional Administration to request environmental pollution measurements from 'Demokritos' National Centre for Scientific Research following the fire at Cephalonia landfill.

Waste Watch says that this should also have happened after the fires at Temploni landfill. That a similar request wasn't made is clear discrimination against Corfu by the Regional Administration and added that it was waiting for measurements to be made public by FODSA (Solid Waste Management Organisation) as it is obliged to do on a regular basis.

Waste Watch Corfu also expressed its concern about how burnt waste is managed at Temploni landfill as, according to legislation, it should be deposited at a landfill for dangerous waste.
