CORFU. Over 50 samples from players, coaches, umpires and others involved in the National Indoor Cricket Championship at Corfu National Sports Centre came back negative.
Over 50 samples from players, coaches, umpires and others involved in the National Indoor Cricket Championship taken by Corfu General Hospital tested negative. The samples were taken following the two confirmed cases of coronavirus with two young women cricketers who were taking part in the Championship at Corfu National Sports Centre earlier this week.
According to the Federation press release, "The Federation responded immediately and suspended all the matches and the General Assembly and implemented contact tracing to protect public health and prevent the spread of the virus.
Over 50 tests were conducted by Corfu Hospital and all proved negative.
We would like to give warm thanks to the following: Corfu Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis; the medical staff at the hospital for their high-quality service and updates; the Deputy Minister for Sport Lefteris Avgenakis; the General Secretary for Sport Giorgos Mavrotas; the responsible scientific committee at the General Secretariat for Sport for providing guidelines and constantly monitoring progress with regard to 'red lines' regarding the protection of public health and the resumption of sports.
We would also like to thank Corfu National Sports Centre and especially the President Stamatis Likouris for their immediate response and cooperation in the matter.
The result shows that strict adherence to hygiene protocols along with immediate response can prevent the spread of the virus.
We will continue with caution and in collaboration with all those mentioned above, the Corfu public and the cricket community.
We wish the two players a speedy recovery and look forward to having them back with us."
