Corfu MP Gikas announces funding of €2m for Corfu National Sports Centre

CORFU. The Decarbonisation Fund, inaugurated on Thursday in Naxos by the Prime Minister, is being presented as a source of hope for funding various needs on the islands. Following the central municipality΄s expectations for the construction of a desalination plant in Chrysiida, Corfu MP Stefanos Gkikas also announced the complete restoration of the National Sports Centre΄s facilities!
(Corfu MP's Press Office) Significant interventions and related funding for necessary renovation works at Corfu National Sports Centre have been announced. These include:
- The demolition of the grandstand.
- The resurfacing of the track (tartan).
- A new natural grass turf.
- Upgrading the stadium’s lighting towers with modern LED lamps and maintenance.
- Covering the open basketball court with an air-supported dome.
- A study for the structural reinforcement and restoration of the small grandstand.
It was announced that the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yiannis Vroutsis, is expected to visit Corfu in the near future to present the planned work in greater detail.
Regarding the Sports Centre grandstands, the Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Island Policy stated: "At a later stage, the construction of new grandstands will also be scheduled."
