Corfu National Sports Centre has been closed due to two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The Chairman of the Sports Centre Board Stamatis Likouris told Enimerosi that on Monday 3 August the results of the tests came back positive for the two women cricketers who take part in the National Championship. The Centre was immediately closed.

The National Indoor Cricket Championship was taking place at the Corfu Sports Centre but following this development all activities at the Sports Facilities have been halted.

The two women cricketers, who are sisters of another confirmed coronavirus case in Corfu, did a rapid test at a private clinic and, following the positive result, Cricket Federation President Iosif Nikitas told Enimerosi that he informed the Sports General Secretariat in order to get instructions.

As a result, the National Indoor Cricket Championship, which had been in progress, was suspended until further notice and the dozens of people involved (players, coaches, club members etc.) have been put in quarantine and will be tested.

Corfu National Sports Centre will remain closed over the next few days and on Tuesday 4 August all the facilities will be disinfected according guidelines from EODY and the Sports General Secretariat.
