Results of the residue analysis from Temploni landfill sent to Municipal Council and others

CORFU. Residue samples from Temploni landfill were collected and sent for analysis by Temploni Cultural Society following the dismissal of the case against those accused of polluting the environment.

Temploni Cultural Society published the results of the analysis of residue samples from several spots in the area under the plant at the landfill - which flow and end up in Bretanou Lake.

The samples were collected and sent for analysis on 18 May following the dismissal of the case against those accused of polluting the environment.

The results were submitted today, Thursday 11 June, to the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council ahead of the council meeting on Sunday 14 June. Copies were also sent to the Regional Administration, the other Municipal Authorities, Corfu MPs, the Corfu Prosecutor, the Medical Association, the Technical Chamber, environmental organisations on the island and to the Environment Inspectors at the Ministry.

Analysis results for the unprocessed residue from the landfill

Following the dismissal of the case against those accused of polluting the environment, our Society decided to collect and send for analysis residue samples from several spots in the area under the plant at the landfill - which flow and end up in Bretanou Lake.

Samples were collected on 18 May, 2020 and sent for analysis to Andreou Chemical Lab in Athens. On 6 June we received the results, which show criminal pollution of the environment and the water table that has been going on for at least 20 years in our area.

These quantities are very high and we are publishing the results so that all the relevant authorities can take action and all Corfiots are aware of the dangers to our health.

The Society is submitting the results today, 11 June, to the Municipal Council ahead of its meeting on Sunday 14 June.

So that decisions can be taken immediately and all necessary actions taken to remedy the heavy pollution of the area.
