Three arrested for illegal transport of 43 foreign nationals to Lecce, Italy

CORFU. Three foreign nationals aged 69, 42 and 37 were arrested by Corfu and Othoni Port Authorities early on Sunday morning.
According to Corfu Port Authority, acting on information received, a Coastguard patrol boat stopped a vessel 'Angelo Bianco' sailing under the US flag off Othoni island. The vessel had a crew of three foreign nationals who were suspected of illegally transporting third-country nationals from Turkey to Italy. The vessel was escorted by two Coastguard vessels to Corfu Port.
A search was conducted in collaboration with the Sea Border Security & Protection Service, Italian Authorities and the Pireaus and Rome international coordination centres, which found that the vessel and its crew were illegally transporting 43 third-country nationals to Lecce in Italy and a European arrest warrant was immediately issued.
Corfu Port Authority, which is conducting the interrogation, arrested the three crew members and confiscated the vessel.
