CORFU. There was a sigh of relief from the Lefkimmi residents present at the Courthouse following the announcement of the court΄s verdict.
Corfu Three-Member Misdemeanor Court found the accused not guilty with a majority verdict. The two accused Lefkimmi residents were both charged with resisting authority and one of them was also charged with grievous bodily harm.
Their defence lawyer Spyros Vlachos said that he was satisfied with the court's verdict as the audio-visual evidence did not identify either of his clients as being the person who injured the police officer at the clashes in Lefkimmi in June 2018.
The video which was submitted to the court as evidence showed scenes from before and after the incident in case. The video that the defence submitted to the court showed that the accused had been arrested before the injury to the police officer.
Mr. Vlachos said that the attack on the police officer was a criminal act which needs to be investigated by the police and the real perpetrator brought to justice.
