LEFKIMMI. The first lorries with waste bales from Temploni arrived at Lefkimmi landfill early this morning.
There was earthmoving equipment in the area yesterday preparing the road to allow access to the landfill. Police have blocked off the area near the filling station just before the entrance to the landfill and traffic is being diverted.
There will be continuous movement as the process has begun of removing the 10,000 or so tons of waste bales from Temploni landfill. All this is happening in the presence of a tight cordon of riot police who have been in Corfu since early Tuesday morning to prevent the intervention of the residents of South Corfu.
