Temploni Residents Association asks for the immediate withdrawal of riot police from Corfu

CORFU. Temploni Cultural Society has issued a statement regarding the presence of riot police in Corfu.
Statement from the Society
Following last night's meeting of the Town Council on the issue of waste management and the Mayor's false assurances that there were no forces on the island to obstruct our fellow residents from protesting about a local problem, Temploni Cultural Society, supporting the principle that a democratic solution should be sought for these problems caused by the insensitivity of the authorities, CATEGORICALLY CONDEMNS THE PRESENCE OF THESE FORCES
and calls on the responsible authorities to IMMEDIATELY arrange for their withdrawal from the island.
We consider that whatever needs to be done to find a solution to this problem, there should be no use of violence against residents who for years have had to live through the indifference, insensitivity and offhandedness of the decisions and actions of the local authorities who with shameless lies - like that of Mayor Nikolouzos at the Council meeting - belittle their intelligence and try to manipulate them.
Temploni, having been through something similar in 2007 with the intervention of MAT in the protests against the tragic management at that time, will always support the use of dialogue to find solutions to these situations, regardless of whether the local residents' demands are right or wrong, on the condition that there is trust on both sides - something that, unfortunately, no longer exists between the Mayor and the people of Corfu.
