CORFU. Immediate compensation from €2,000 to €6,000 to each eligible recipient for household goods.

On Monday, a team from the General Secretariat for Natural Disasters is expected to arrive, which will proceed with recording the damage. Once the data has been collected — by the Municipality for residences and by the Regional Authority for businesses — it is hoped that funding for those affected will be activated as soon as possible.

The governmental committee for state aid will convene within the second ten-day period of December to release the first restoration funds.

According to the statement by Corfu MP Stefanos Gikas: With the assistance and care of the Municipality of North Corfu, residents will submit the necessary documentation, and within three working days from its receipt and approval, compensation of 2,000 to 6,000 euros will be paid to each beneficiary to cover the first urgent household needs.

On Saturday, the Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis & Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados, and the Secretary General for the Restoration of Natural Disasters & State Aid, Petros Kambouris, visited the site.

They were accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Shipping & Island Policy and Corfu MP, Stefanos Gikas; the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis; the Mayor of North Corfu, Giorgos Mahimaris; Deputy Regional Governors, Deputy Mayors, as well as officials of the Regional Authority and the Municipality.

The Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, stated during the meeting that followed at the town hall that “he will promptly submit well-documented technical reports, requesting a swift response from the government.”
