Situation in Yialiskari–Kontogialos dire - road destroyed and outrage over dumped rubble
CORFU. A post with video and photos by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor warns that ‘this kind of behaviour will not remain unanswered!
On Saturday morning, Central Corfu Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos, along with Deputy Mayor Fontas Alamanos and Sinarades Local Council President Dimitris Merianos, visited the Yialiskari–Kontogialos area at the invitation of the Sinarades Community President.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct an on-site inspection of the severe damage caused to the road by the recent torrential rains.
According to Deputy Mayor Fontas Alamanos, the condition of the road is dire, making it impassable. The risk of additional landslides and collapses is, unfortunately, high.
During the descent toward the beach, the officials were confronted with a striking contrast:
A row of waste bins—orderly, clean, and covered—while behind them large quantities of bulky items of every kind were discovered, originating from renovations of local tourist properties.

The Mayor expressed his sorrow and anger over this situation, stressing that “certain well-known ‘unknown’ business owners in the area show their love for the place they live off in THIS way. For our Corfu!”
He concluded by making it clear that “this behaviour will not go unanswered!”, signaling the municipal administration’s intention to take measures.
