Horse and carriage owner arrested after all for death of horse
CORFU. He was arrested for violating the law regarding animal welfare and in particular for exhausting the animal.
The Public Prosecutor ordered the arrest of the 76-year-old horse and carriage driver following the completion of the investigation into the circumstances of the horse's death yesterday afternoon outside the Orfeas cinema.
The investigation was concluded at 11 o'clock this morning, at which point the Corfu Prosecutor, who examined the testimonies of witnesses as well as the autopsy report, decided to prosecute the horse and carriage driver for violating animal welfare laws (animal abuse - mistreatment of a horse) and specifically for its exhaustion.
The arrested man will be taken to appear before the competent Judicial Authority, and in addition, an administrative fine of €30,000 has been imposed on him.
