Taste of Korea at Ionian University
University Dean Andreas Floros and South Korean Ambassador Jung Il Lee
CORFU. A meeting of cultures with the Republic of Korea Embassy and the Ionian University.
Ionian University Dean Andreas Floros welcomed the Republic of Korea Ambassador to Greece Jung Il Lee on Monday, 16 May. The visit took place at the university campus at the former psychiatric clinic and a special event was organised presenting traditional Korean dishes.
Over 100 students took part along with teaching and administrative staff who, under the guidance of special embassy personnel, prepared the traditional dishes.
In his address, the Korean Ambassador welcomed the joint effort to bring together two peoples with common features and a historic relationship. He made particular reference to the Greek veterans who took part in the Korean War.
The Dean welcomed the Ambassador and the Embassy staff and stressed the importance of the joint initiative in organising the event, which gave students and staff the opportunity to learn more about an important civilisation and create bridges of cooperation.
Both parties took an active part in the event, which drew warm applause from the members of the university academic community who were present. Souvenirs were handed out to the students present.
Afterwards, the Dean showed the Ambassador round the university facilities at the former psychiatric clinic and they agreed to discuss aspects of education and research of common interest at at a working dinner during the Ambassador's stay in Corfu Town.
