CORFU. Ryanair and Jet2 to add 41 extra flights in October.

Corfu Airport saw an increase of 3% in the number of  international commercial flights in August, with 2,470 compared to 2,398 in the corresponding month last year.

According to Dimitris Roussos, President of Corfu Civil Aviation Employees Union, it is estimated that the number of passengers will exceed 400,000. "August doesn't differ much from July in terms of passenger numbers, as it is expected to be slightly over 400,000," he told Enimerosi. "September is expected to be similar to last year."

Once again, the United Kingdom is top with 733 flights compared to 720 in August 2022. Germany follows with 395 flights compared to 370, Italy with 330 flights compared to 321, France with 167 flights compared to 200, Poland with 159 flights compared to 144 and the Czech Republic, which experienced an increase, with 109 flights compared to 76 in August of the previous year.

41 extra flights in October

According to Mr. Roussos, 41 additional flights have been added to their schedules by low-cost airlines in October. Specifically, Ryanair's schedule has been enriched with 30 more flights to 9 destinations, including Athens. "We are seeing a few more dates being added, extending the schedule by a few days from East Midlands, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Brussels, Cologne, Venice, and Rome," he said. "For Athens, where initially flights were scheduled until September 28, we see the addition of 7 more flights in October."

Jet2 has added 11 flights in October with the final date being Monday, October 30. More specifically, four flights have been added from East Midlands, three from London, and four from Newcastle.

30% flight occupancy on Dubai flights

Regarding the new air connection between Dubai and Corfu, which started operating for the first time this June, the results do not seem to be as expected, as the occupancy rates are hovering around 30%. Except for the first day of operation of the route, where passengers reached 110 out of a capacity of 166 seats, the numbers subsequently remained in double digits.
