Traditional lantern falls again in Liston

CORFU. For the umpteenth time, parts of Corfu Town΄s historical buildings are collapsing, as they have deteriorated over time.
Another traditional venetian lantern fell early in the morning, in front of those who were at that time in Liston - the most famous, much-photographed area, a landmark of Corfu. For the umpteenth time, parts of Corfu Town's historical buildings are collapsing, as they have deteriorated over time.
The civil engineer Gerasimos Mourmouris took a photo of the fallen lantern and posted it on social media.
Fortunately, noone was injured, but we can all imagine what the result would have been if this happened at a time with thousands of visitors, such as Easter.
In 2018
A similar incident had occurred in 2018 and at that time the Technical Services Department had announced that damage to the weld was found in combination with the strong wind.
In fact, it was announced then that the Municipality would check and repair all the other lanterns as well. It is worth noting, however, that today's light rainfall without wind could not justify the fall.
