CORFU. The hospital unions are taking part in the 24-hour Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN)and Civil Servants΄ Confederation (ADEDY) strike.
Those taking part in the health workers' strike today are calling on people to take part in the rally being organised in Annunziata Square at 18:00 this evening in protest at the state of the public health system in Corfu and the major problems being faced.
Corfu Hospital General Workers' Union and the Psychiatric Department Workers' Union are taking part in the 24-hour Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers (POEDIN)and Civil Servants΄ Confederation (ADEDY) strike in protest at the underfunding, understaffing and gradual privatisation of the public health system.
The strikers gathered at the hospital entrance and were joined by representatives from ADEDY, pensioners, Federation of Agricultural Associations, Garitsa Society, Environmental Protection Association, Federation of Women of Greece along with the local SYRIZA coordinator Christos Moraitis, KKE MP candidates Giorgos Koulouris, Alexandra Balou and Marina Haralambous, PASOK KINAL MP candidate Maria Dri and others.
The decision for the protest was taken at a meeting of several organisations and bodies at the Workers' Centre last Thursday, who all expressed their support for today's protest as well as a public health protest rally on 2 March.
