British tourist in Corfu reports being raped

CORFU. A British woman holidaying in North Corfu has reported that she was raped by a 48-year-old Corfu man.
The 33-year-old woman reported that she had been raped on Saturday night, early Sunday morning.
She provided a description of the man and North Corfu police were able to find and immediately arrest him. The man is said to have denied the charge and claims that sex had been consensual.
Forensic examinations were carried out on both the man and the woman.
The alleged rapist, who is being held in custody, was taken to appear before the Prosecutor on Monday and a decision as to how the matter will proceed is expected today.
