Cleaning Service: ‘No rubbish in bins during the day’
CORFU. Residents should throw away their rubbish only from 20:00 to 23:00 or they will be fined.
The Municipal Cleaning Service announced the hours during which the residents will be allowed to throw away their rubbish.
The Cleaning Service's statement:
“Since the tourist season is about to begin and given that Corfu is one of the top tourist destinations in Greece, all of us, the Municipality and the citizens, must work together so that our island remains clean 24/7.
Our Municipality, having carried out a number of actions that are still in progress, which include the reorganisation of its services, the replacement of its equipment and the cooperation with external partners, now wants to provide the best possible cleanliness to our town and all Municipal Units.
In order to avoid the accumulation of large amounts of waste that are causing a stench, while also polluting and degrading the urban, natural and cultural environment, we are asking all residents not to dispose their waste during the day, but only from 20:00 to 23:00.
Rubbish should also be placed in the bins in tied bags and everyone should always close the bin lids. The recyclable packaging should be cut in smaller pieces before being thrown away in order to reduce their size.
According to the cleaning regulation in force, whoever does not comply with the abovementioned will be fined.
It is up to all of us to avoid the ugly images of the past.
We wish everyone a happy Easter!”
