CORFU. The patients have been transferred from the Pathological Department to the Covid Unit.

Covid cases have been found amongst patients in Corfu Hospital Pathological Department and they have been transferred to the Covid Unit - creating even more pressure for the unit, which is at its limit.

This is not the first time this has happened, however, and the number of cases is increasing in the Pathological Department, which has the most patients, escorts and personnel in the hospital.

According to hospital sources, it was decided at this morning's meeting of the Infectious Diseases Committee not to allow escorts in the Pathological Department until Monday, when the measure will be reviewed. In the meantime, patients who cannot look after themselves will be assisted by the nursing staff.

The current measures allow only one escort per patient and they have to take a rapid test before they can enter the hospital, whether or not they are vaccinated. If they need to leave the hospital, they have to take another rapid test before coming back in.

Nevertheless, the virus is still transmitted - probably from parts of the building that aren't guarded or the corridors in common areas.
