Vidos Island to have 10 sorting at source streams

CORFU. Spyros Neratzis wants to turn Vidos into a model island as regards waste management.
The Municipal Councillor responsible for Vidos Island Spyros Neratzis has presented his waste management plan which will soon be ready for implementation.
"In waste management the steps to change from a linear to a circular economy are simple.
1. Vision
2. Objective
3. Planning
4. Trust, cooperation and mutual support with municipal services
5. Trust, cooperation and mutual support with our partners and their knowhow
6. Investment in human resources, awareness, participation and the desire of all those living on the island for a better tomorrow.
7. Steady perseverance in objectives and planning
8. Restoring trust between local authorities and the public
9. Patience and a lot of optimism
In the summer of 2018 we started to inculcate the need for these steps and from September 2019, as Councillor responsible for Vidos and Lazareto and in collaboration with the team of experts in our party 'Kerkyra Psila', we started to methodically implement the steps.
We are happy that very shortly Vidos will have the necessary equipment and materials to begin sorting at source in 10 separate streams.
This summer we will begin our efforts to turn Vidos into a model island for waste management and environmental education.
We would like to list here the equipment and materials we will have available (most of it we have already and it is just a matter of days before we have the rest):
- 46 bins in 7 different colours (a different colour for each material)
- 30 small bins for leftover food
- 10 standing ashtrays
- 1 mobile shredder
- 10 tables with benches for picnics
We would like to thank the following:
- Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Deputy Mayor Yiannis Seremetis for their trust in us and for helping us get the necessary bins to implement our plan.
- Municipal officials Giorgos Zaragas and Dimitris Mirisklavos who provided us with all the necessary equipment.
We will very shortly present how we will implement our plan."
