CORFU. How it is hoped that DIADEYAK will finally receive the €1.6 million for projects.

In any case, DIADEYAK funding became a riddle due to its (in)ability to manage effectively, which characterises the organisation. Thus, the paradox emerged where Central Corfu Municipality was declared in a state of emergency but could not be funded with public resources!

This riddle is hoped to be resolved with a draft law expected in the Plenary Session of Parliament next week, which, among other things, is expected to exempt municipal enterprises in areas declared in a state of emergency from the requirement of administrative capacity, so they can draw public funds — funds which, ultimately, will help them overcome their dire condition.

However, the emergency period for Corfu ends on July 23, and by then, everything possible must be done so that DIADEYAK can receive the much-talked-about €1.6 million, which has long been credited in its name.

According to sources within the enterprise, they intend to use this money to address urgent and immediate needs, including ensuring water supply to the broader Perama area, which is suffering from water shortages.

Specifically, they plan to replace sections of the much-troubled Armeni–Sotiriotissa pipeline, connect boreholes to the network, and restore the water supply and network in the Zougra–Katsaratika area, which will finally bring relief to Perama as well.

Meanwhile, at DIADEYAK — though they boast of having carried out more drillings in a single year than ever before, 25 in total — they struggle with daily operations. Sunday’s town-wide water outage, as unfortunately expected, left behind a string of damages in the network once pressure was restored.
