CORFU. The women apologised for the trouble they caused in the local community, stating that they did not intend to offend either the residents or the island΄s culture.

The five British women who took part in a pole dancing performance in front of the island’s Old Palace were found not guilty of violating the Archaeological Law by the single-member misdemeanours court of Corfu, as it was proven that no physical damage was caused to the monument.

Two of them, who organised the photo shoot, were found guilty of degrading the culture of Corfu and were given a six-month suspended prison sentence. After leaving the courthouse, they thanked the Greek justice system and apologised for the disturbance they caused to the local community, stating that they did not intend to offend either the residents or the culture of the island, which they have admired for many years during their visits to Corfu.
