CORFU. What Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos said to the representatives of the residents and the catering businesses.

Two meetings, one after the other, took place on Wednesday at the town hall, focusing on the conditions for coexistence between residents and businesses regarding space and hours that music is played, as well as the extent of tables and chairs in the Garitsa and Anemomylos parks.

In the first meeting with representatives of the permanent residents’ association, Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos reiterated the municipal authority's decision to monitor music volume before and after 11 p.m., ensuring it does not exceed the legally permitted 80 dB. Any violations of space regulations are inspected by a municipal task force, and fines are imposed on the offenders.

Regarding the tables and chairs in the parks, the mayor informed business owners of his decision to insist on expanding the permit to 100 square metres from the current 45 square metres—a regulation that is often violated. The goal is to legalise the entire activity and prevent unauthorized space occupation during peak days and hours.

This municipal stance, however, faces opposition from the Garitsa residents' association, which cites forestry service documents stating that such activities are not permitted in designated areas under its jurisdiction, except for a small municipal refreshment stand.

The issue is expected to be brought before the Central Corfu municipal council for a decision soon. According to journalistic sources, the residents’ association plans to challenge the decision.
