26-month prison sentence for driver, 24, who hit police cyclist in pedestrian area

CORFU. The 24-year-old was issued administrative fines, and his licence, vehicle registration documents (registration permit and licence plates), as well as his driver΄s licence were revoked for one year.
The 24-year-old driver who hit a police officer on a bicycle in a pedestrian zone on Thursday afternoon, March 6, was found guilty and sentenced to 26 months in prison without suspension. He had been arrested by the Traffic Police for dangerous driving, disobedience, violence against public officials and damage to property.
The young man was located, stopped, and arrested while driving a vehicle within a pedestrian area in the town. After being signalled to stop for a check by police cycle officers (from the Tourist Police), he performed "dangerous maneouvres, resulting in a collision with the bicycle ridden by the police officer and causing him minor injuries, as stated in a police announcement.
