CORFU. Businesses are requested to submit ownership titles, lease agreements or usage concession agreements for the designated parking spaces to the Technical Services Department of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality.

(Central Corfu Municipality) The Municipal Authority is implementing measures against the unauthorised occupation of municipal spaces by thousands of rental cars, aiming to restore smoother traffic and parking conditions in Corfu Town.

In a letter to car rental businesses, the Municipality’s Technical Services Department states that, according to current legislation, the issuance of a Special Operating Licence by the Ionian Islands Regional Tourism Service requires businesses to have parking spaces for at least 50% of their fleet.

To comply, businesses are requested to submit ownership titles, lease agreements or usage concession agreements for the designated parking spaces to the Technical Services Department of the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality (38 K. Georgaki Street, Airport Area) by December 31, 2024.

Failure to comply will lead the Municipal Authority, in collaboration with the Ionian Islands Regional Tourism Service (responsible for regulating these businesses), to impose penalties as stipulated by the legislation. These penalties include hefty fines and, in cases of repeated violations, revocation of the business licence.

Violators will face fines of €500 per vehicle. In the case of a repeat offence within three years, the fine increases to €1,000 per vehicle. A second repeat offence raises the fine to €1,500, and further violations result in the revocation of the business’ Special Operating License for two months.
