The Workers Centre issued the following statement:

On Tuesday, May 21st, a solidarity rally for the people of Palestine and against Greek involvement was held, following a call from the Corfu Workers Centre and the Corfu branch of ADEDY. The rally took place outside the Ionian Academy, the set-off point for the anniversary parade for the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece.

From the very beginning, strong police forces and riot police (MAT) cordoned off the area! Despite the atmosphere of repression and intimidation, the protest was dynamic and militant with slogans such as 'Freedom for Palestine,' 'The blood of the children is a stain that does not fade, it waters the soil in Rafah-Palestine,' 'History has one correct side, with Palestine until Freedom,' 'This crime bears the signatures of the USA, Europeans, and Israelis,' as well as 'Soldiers are the people's children, they have no business beyond the borders,' and 'No land, no water for the murderers of the people' resonating in the atmosphere, despite the deafening noise of fighter jets and war helicopters constantly passing over the area.

In the area in front of the dignitaries, a flag-bearer participating in the parade raised a Palestinian scarf, thereby expressing the solidarity of our country's people with the Palestinians, who are being slaughtered by the murderous state of Israel! When the gathered protesters, following the end of the parade, started a march, riot police forces (MAT), with shields in hand and other 'equipment' ready for use, blocked the road for the protesters! However, due to the determination of the demonstrators, the police cordon was forced to retreat, and the march proceeded normally through the town's main streets!

It is notable that as the demonstrators passed, a large crowd applauded and cheered, with many joining the protest! The protest concluded at Annunziata Square with the gathered participants declaring their readiness for any development and call to action!
