A meeting took place today regarding the Easter measures in anticipation of the expected increase in visitors this year. The meeting was convened by the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, with the participation of relevant stakeholders.

There were representatives from: Catering, the Ambulance Service, tourist organisations, the Coastguard, fire department, traffic police, Municipal Civil Protection Service, Corfu Police Chief, Port Authority, the Chamber of Commerce, the Ionian Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship, AOCTA, Corfu National Sports Centre, Corfu Urban bus service, and municipal services. The aim is to ensure the seamless movement of visitors on the island without, however, disrupting the daily lives of permanent residents. The Mayor announced that there will be additional parking spaces beyond the known ones, such as Corfu National Sports Centre (EAKK), the main area of the port, a section of the construction site where the indoor training facility will be created in Alykes, the area in front of the Garitsa cemetery, and some school yards will also be opened to be used as parking spaces.

New spaces

Work is also being carried out to prepare the plot that was intended for the construction of the lyric theater to be used as a parking lot. Similarly, a plot in Kambaniolo will be allocated for this purpose.

Visitors will be able to be transferred to the town by urban buses, KTEL and mini vans.

Traffic regulations and safety provisions

To maintain order and safety for both visitors and locals during the Easter days, special traffic measures will be implemented in Corfu Town, which, according to the Traffic Police Chief Mr. Kostantis, will take effect from the beginning of Easter Week.

There will also be provision for special lanes within the town in case of emergency need for intervention by the Emergency Medical Services.
