There was a demonstration of the new open sea firefighting tugboat at Corfu Port today on the occasion of the two-day visit of the Minister of Shipping, Yiannis Pappas.
The new tugboat, purchased through the Ministry of Shipping, has 5,500 horsepower and is manned by a crew of five.
It has been at the port for about a week, and as the Managing Director of Corfu Port Authority, Spyros Zervopoulos, told Enimerosi, it meets modern specifications: on one hand, it's capable of towing large vessels, and on the other hand, it is equipped with firefighting equipment, the so-called FF1.
"In this way, our ports are reinforced, and we can have reliable fire safety, whilst not have any other firefighting vessel," added Spyros Zervopoulos.
