Magda Kokkali from Corfu wins silver medal in National Para Sailing Championships

CORFU. Accompanied by Alexandros Koulouris, her first appearance in Hansa 303 Double races was crowned with success.

Magda Kokkali of Corfu Sailing Club (IOK), who competed in the Hansa 303 Double Paralympic class in the 32nd International Sailing Week 2023, is returning to the island with a silver medal.

The debut performance of the IOK sailor in the Panhellenic Sailing Championship for People with Disabilities, held within the framework of the central event, was crowned with success. Along with her escort Alexandros Koulouris, they achieved very good performances on both days of competition, securing 2nd place in the overall standings and the silver medal.

Sailing Races

In the three sailing races on the first day (7/11) in the Hansa 303 Double Paralympic class the duo Kokkali – Koulouris came second place in two races, while in another, they secured third place facing crews from Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Patras, Kallithea Athens, Heraklion and Volos. In this category, a total of 32 individuals participated, of which 16 were athletes with disabilities, and the others were their escorts.

On the second and final day of the races (9/11), they finished 1st, 4th and 3rd in the sailing races. The overall performance resulted in them securing second position and the silver medal.

Corfu Sailing Club (IOK) posted a message of congratulations on it's Facebook Page, stating: "Second and final day of races with 1st, 4th and 3rd places. Magda Kokkali with crew member Alexandros Koulouris secured 2nd position in the overall standings and the silver medal. Well done, guys. We are proud, and we hope you inspire many youngsters to follow your example and set sail."

The award ceremony for the duo took place on Thursday night in Athens, at the facilities of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, in Kallithea.

International event

The Panhellenic Sailing Championship for People with Disabilities took place within the framework of the 32nd International Sailing Week 2023, organised by the Hellenic Sailing Federation in collaboration with six yacht clubs, in Faliron Bay, Athens. The event featured the participation of a total of 13 countries with over 600 athletes who took part in all Olympic and international categories. Teams of athletes with disabilities also had a strong presence, competing in the Para Sailing categories Hansa 303 Single and Hansa 303 Double, as part of the Panhellenic Sailing Championship for People with Disabilities.
