Stefanos Poulimenos new Central Corfu Mayor
Until this morning, the ballots were being counted by the two candidates for the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, with Stefanos Poulimenos constantly hovering just above and just below the decisive 43%.
At 7 in the morning, with votes from 140 out of 142 polling stations counted, the leader of the Exarhis party had stabilised above 43%.
By 9:30, the counting had been completed for 99.3% of the polling stations, with the percentage standing at 43.14%, putting an end to the overnight thriller for victory in the Central Municipality.
Where Meropi Ydraiou won
The outgoing mayor, Meropi Ydraiou, nevertheless, won in the districts of Parelia with 47%, Erikoussa with 49%, Mathraki with 64% and Othonoi with 64%.
The results, in 141 out of 142 polling stations, as reported by the Ministry of Interior:
Stefanos Poulimenos 48.14% - Votes 12,728 - Seats 23
Meropi Ydraiou 38.55% - Votes 11,372 - Seats 11
Yiannis Borbotis 9.7% - Votes 2,862 - Seats 3
Takis Metallinos 4.59% - Votes 1,354 - Seat 1
Giorgos Karydis 4.02% - Votes 1,187 - Seat 1
It should be noted, however, that the major 'winner' in these elections was voter abstention, which was 52%.
