CORFU. The Central Corfu Municipality has extended the deadline for the collection of humanitarian aid until Friday 15 September.

Holding beddings, water, diapers, long-lasting food items and other goods, Corfu citizens are responding to the local authorities and bodies' call to collect humanitarian aid for the flood victims in Thessaly.

People's response and solidarity to those affected by the deadly floods caused by 'Daniel' bad weather is great and once again touching.

Dozens of our fellow citizens are offering whatever they can in these difficult times, in order to collect some basic necessities for those in need.

Bottled water, packaged long-life food items ready for consumption (canned goods, milk, cereals, baby food, etc.), blankets and beddings, pillows, sleeping bags, baby care items (diapers, baby wipes) and personal hygiene items (soaps, toilet paper, etc.), power banks, torches, medicines (antipyretics, painkillers, antihistamines) and other pharmaceutical products arrive daily at the collection points.

Until 15 September

The collection point that has been designated by the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality in the office of the Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare, Andreas Skoupouras, on the ground floor of the former Prefecture, has been filled with dozens of bags with all the necessities.

The collection of humanitarian aid by the Central Corfu Minicipality will continue until Friday 15 September at 17:00, following the extension announced. All items collected until then will be sent to the affected areas through the Corfu branch of the Hellenic Red Cross.
