"Our goal is to develop sustainable tourism" - MP candidate Spyros Krokidis meets with AOCTA
CORFU. They discussed this year΄s tourist season, which is showing signs that it is going well, and other issues that need to be addressed.
"I visited the Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA) today, where I met with its President, Mr. Spyros Halikiopoulos, with whom we had, once again, a very constructive discussion, both on the issues, problems, and topics that concern Corfu tourism, as well as on the future of Corfu tourism.
The goal of all of us, tourism professionals, those directly or indirectly employed in tourism activity, the institutional players at all levels of power, but also the Corfiot community, must be the development of sustainable tourism with long-term planning, which includes future economic, environmental and social parameters.
We also discussed this year's tourist season, where there are very positive messages, but also issues that need to be addressed. One of these issues is the major problem that tourists from Extra Sengen, such as the British, who make up the majority of Corfu's tourists, face when three planes land at approximately the same time. Passengers remain standing in the sun without access to toilets, medicine, and water for over half an hour while their documents are being checked by the airport police.
The exact same problem is also seen at Corfu Customs, with passengers to Albania forming queues on a daily basis.
I would like to thank the president of AOCTA and its members because they always act with determination and vigour for the benefit of Corfu tourism and, by extension, our region."
