CORFU. A seminar on sustainable tourism following a year of challenging phenomena in the market and society.

The Governors of the Ionian and Aegean regions, along with Dimitris Avramopoulos, are among the speakers at an seminar focused on sustainable tourism development. This event also marks the inauguration of the Region’s new multi-purpose hall, as part of an effort to repurpose the space away from its past legal battles to serve a broader community function.

In addition to welcome addresses by the Regional Governors, Trepeklis, Hatzimarkos (South Aegean), and Moutzouris (North Aegean), as well as Deputy Minister of Shipping Stefanos Gikas, the Secretary General for Tourism Policy, V. Koutsoukou, and the Dean of the Ionian University, Andreas Floros, the following presentations are expected to generate considerable interest: Dimitris Avramopoulos’s 'Regions as Key Partners in Implementing National Tourism Strategy'; Deputy Regional Governor for Dodecanese Culture, Ch. Michalakis, on 'Challenges to Island Tourism Competitiveness'; CEO of Mitsis Group, S. Mitsis, on 'Sustainable Tourism Development: Strategies and Opportunities for the Hotel Industry in the Ionian and Aegean'; Ch. Voulgaris’s 'Towards Sustainable Hotels'; and K. Tsoumanis’s 'Sustainable Tourism Requires a Sustainable Society.'

The event will conclude with two roundtable discussions moderated by S. Vlachos, focusing on a technocratic perspective, and Spyros Rikos, who will lead the discussion on the seminar's key takeaways.
