CORFU. The Prosecutor΄s appeal was heard in court regarding the case of Archbishop Nektarios conducting a service on Palm Sunday, 2020 in the middle of the pandemic.
Corfu Three-Member Misdemeanor Court acquitted Archbishop Nektarios at the appeal heard in court yesterday. The appeal was filed by the prosecutor against the initial decision of acquittal regarding the case of the procession of Saint Spyridon's icon on Palm Sunday, 2020, during the pandemic.
The second trial of the Archbishop had originally been scheduled for June 9, 2022, but the court decided by majority that the appeal of the Prosecutor at the Corfu Appeals Court against Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, who was charged for her presence in the same procession, should be heard first.The new trial of the Archbishop was set for Thursday, May 4. It should be noted that on April 3, the Three-Member Appeals Court of Misdemeanors in Corfu unanimously acquitted Mayor Meropi Ydraiou in the same case.
