CORFU. Pupils from the Department of Economics, IT and Agriculture had the opportunity to learn about the history of the olive tree and the olive oil production industry.
The Ionian Islands Regional Agrifood Partnership's events with different schools are continuing.
The Agrifood Partnership, along with the Korakiana Vocational High School, visited the 'Enotis' Olive Oil Museum in Vistonas, Corfu, on Wednesday 5 April. The pupils from the Department of Economics, IT and Agriculture had the opportunity to learn about the history of the olive tree and the olive oil production industry in Corfu, the stages of olive oil production in the 19th century and its evolution in later years, as well as the traditional methods of storage and preservation of olive oil.
The exhibits of the museum are all heirlooms of the Konstantis family (the owners of 'Enotis' company). The family has more than a century of history in the production of Corfu olive oil, as their mills had been operating since 1897.
"Learning our history is the foundation of a better future. Our goal is for all the pupils of the Korakiana Vocational High School, where teachers are doing an amazing job in terms of practical training, to envision their future on the profession they have chosen, based on what each of us can contribute to our island", said the Agrifood Partnership President Nikos Mouzakitis.
"We would like to give warm thanks to Konstantis family for the excellent hospitality in their wonderful museum, as well as the principal, teachers and pupils of the Korakiana Vocational High School".
