Central Corfu Mayor meets with Corfu volunteers who went to Turkey with Search and Rescue Team

Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Mayor Meropi Ydraiou met with the two Corfu volunteers who took part in the Greek search and rescue operation in the areas hit by the earthquakes in Turkey.

The two volunteers Andreas Korikis and Andreas Spyros Mouzakitis are members of the Corfu branch of the Greek Rescue Team.

They related their moving experiences to the Mayor of human pain, the extent of the disaster and the miracle of the lives of people trapped in the ruins being saved.

Meropi Ydraiou congratulated them and said that through their presence and participation in the humanitarian operation Corfu sent its own message of humanity and solidarity.

The Mayor said, "You have shown in the past and now that when people come together for a common goal they can provide help in the most extreme situations. As Corfiots we owe you a big thank you and are proud and grateful for your courage and willingness to put your own safety at risk in order to help others. Your selflessness and heroism is an inspiration and example for us all."
