CORFU. "The pressure is repeated and daily that it almost becomes a threat."
The Hellenic Federation of Bank Employees Organisations (OTOE) branch in Corfu reported the employers' arbitrary behaviour:
"Corfu OTOE branch highlights in every way the problems faced by colleagues in the sector and most of them have to do with the employers' arbitrary behaviour.
There have been continuous complaints from colleagues over the last ten days about the pressure they are under to participate in a voluntary redundancy programme that has been announced. The pressure is repeated and daily that it almost becomes a threat.
They do not even listen to colleagues who have people with health problems in their family, while on the other hand, with the money provided by the programme, it will be difficult for someone to cope with the increased cost of living.
Voluntary redundancy is another way for employers to reduce operating costs. Their aim is for employees with sectoral rights to leave in order to hire others in their place, either through flexible forms of employment or as temporary leased employees.
We demand that this be stopped.
We are stressing in every way that voluntary redundancy is a personal matter of each employee.
We call on the trade unions and the Corfu Worker's Centre to take a stand."
