CORFU. Kyriakos Mitsotakis boarded one of the two Chinook helicopters that are taking the Greek delegation to South Albania, where the PM will meet with the Greek diaspora.

The Greek PM stopped over for a few minutes at Corfu Airport early this morning. He arrived in the Prime Minister's plane and then boarded one of the two Chinook helicopters that are taking the Greek delegation to South Albania, where the PM will meet with the Greek diaspora.

He is being accompanied by Corfu and Thesprotia ND MPs Stefanos Gikas and Vassilis Yiogiakis and will visit Himara, Livadhe and Dervican, where there is a large Greek minority. The delegation will return via Ioannina.

The Prime Minister had been scheduled to visit the Greek minority in North Epirus during his visit to Albania in early December but it was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

This is the first time since 1991 that a Greek Prime Minister has visited the Greek minority in Albania. At that time Konstantinos Mitsotakis visited the villages of Himara, Livadhe and Dervican.

An issue of concern to the Greeks in North Epirus, amongst others, is that of the compulsory purchase by the Albanian state of the minority's property. Stefanos Gikas told Enimerosi that the purpose of the PM's visit to Albania is to reassure the Greek population that Greece supports them and will safeguard all the rights provided for in European Treaties for the diaspora.
