CORFU. Solutions have been found for the issues of the skate park and the cutting of trees.

The Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and the Garitsa Park Cultural Society reached an agreement today regarding the creation of a skate park, thus ending the dispute between them and confirming Enimerosi's latest article on the issue.

At the scheduled meeting in Maraslio and following many discussions, the two sides came to an agreement and even signed a joint statement concerning the two controversial issues. Thus, the skate park will not be created and only dead and sick trees will be cut down and not healthy ones.

Especially for the skate park, the issue has to be resolved in a way that will not create problems with the funding and will implement the Municipal Council's decision last March.

The Society's President Alexandros Vergis said that "we are happy with the municipal authority's decision to remove only the sick and dangerous trees and for the rational decision on the skate park". The Mayor on the other hand said that any solution is aimed at "immediate and permanent social harmony and peace".

The joint statement said the following:

There was understanding and cooperation at the new meeting between the Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Garitsa Park Cultural Society representatives.

The redevelopment project to turn the Garitsa and Anemomylos Parks into a green lung is progressing, which is what both sides and the vast majority of citizens want.

There was agreement on the following issues:

- The creation of operating regulations for the parks and their protection immediately after the completion of the works.

- Only the trees that are considered unhealthy and dangerous will be removed and they will be replaced with new ones. In fact, it was agreed that a municipal agronomist would work with an agronomist representing the Cultural Society.

- The works and tender procedures are proceeding normally. The new cables have already been placed, the new lights will be installed at the beginning of the new year, while the lawn will be placed in March and 10,000 flowers and new trees will be planted.

- The supply of materials for the skate park will be dealt with in the best possible way, as the Municipal Authority and the Association's main objective is to ensure the quality of life of the citizens living in the area and bring immediate and permanent social harmony and peace.

Everyone's main concern is for the Corfu citizens and visitors to soon enjoy such an important project that aims to upgrade the environment and rejuvenate and redevelop the whole area.

The Society's President Alexandros Vergis stated the following: "The Garitsa and Anemomylos Parks redevelopment project includes many great improvements that will make our beloved parks more beautiful which is something that, as residents of the area, we have been asking for years. We are happy with the municipal authority's decision to remove only the sick and dangerous trees and for the rational decision on the skate park.

We agree with the creation of operating regulations to which we will all contribute. We would like to thank the Society members for their support, good cooperation and good will throughout this process and we continue to seek the beauty, peace and enhancement of our area's natural environment."

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou stated the following:

"We received the parks in a bad condition. In the summer of 2023 the park will have changed its appearance, it will be a place of life and entertainment, a place where Corfu citizen and visitors will be happy to spend their time. We have proven that wherever there are problems, there are also solutions. And the solutions arise through logic, discussion and search for what unites us. We will always look for solutions, cooperation and understanding. Because it leads to a better tomorrow for all."
