CORFU. Corfu Old Town Permanent Residents Association΄s online petition on the issue of the extension to the time allowed for music.
The Corfu Old Town Permanent Residents Association is collecting signatures online for the new round of negotiations in the Central Corfu Municipality, following the businesses' second request for an extension to the time allowed for music.
The online petition that has been available since 6 December says the following:
The permanent residents of the Old Town have suffered a lot because of the situation created by bars that are operating as entertainment venues without any of the specifications required by law.
The law clearly states that the music deadline may be extended, depending on the type of musical instruments and the location of the venue in relation to the surrounding residential areas and provided that the residents are not disturbed.
The Corfu Municipal Council wisely decided not to extend the time allowed for music in the historic town centre due to its building infrastructure and the position of the businesses in relation to the surrounding residential areas.
We are letting everyone know that we will defend our inalienable right to live in the Old Town in every legal way and will not allow the deterioration of the quality of life protected by the Constitution and laws.
We are asking that the Old Town's many problems, such as urban planning, land use, property ownership, civil protection, traffic, parking and cleaning, be resolved immediately.
We are asking that the article 26 of the 2012 regulation not be amended.
We are asking that no extension to the time allowed for music be granted in the Old Town.
You can sign the petition on the avaaz.org platform.
