CORFU. The results of chemical analyses have been given to the Regional Administration.
A team from the 'Demokritos' National Centre of Scientific Research will be in Corfu on Tuesday 15 November to continue their inspection of the area around the Temploni landfill to see if any pollution or damage has been caused by the landfill.
This will be the second stage of sample collection in the agreement with the National Research Center signed by the Ionian Islands Regional Administration in order to determine any effects on the environment within a 5km radius of the landfill.
Deputy Regional Governor for Environment, Energy and Planning Spyros Ioannou told Enimerosi that the collection of samples will this time focus on livestock (sheep and goat milk, sheep and goat meat, pigs, poultry, eggs) and olive (olive oil) products. The results from the water samples have come back.
The Regional Authority has received the results of the chemical analyses of the underground water and these are expected to be announced by Spyros Ioannou at a press conference on Monday 14 November ahead of the third visit by Demokritos to Corfu on the following day.
The Regional Authority has received the complete report from the 'Demokritos' National Centre of Scientific Research: 'Air samples from selected spots - Chemical analyses of air samples - Report of the results of chemical analyses: 1st Stage' from the 1st stage of sample collection and chemical analyses of the atmosphere in the Temploni area, with the levels not being greater than the allowed limits.
