CORFU. Repair works will also be carried out in 11 more schools.
The Mayor Meropi Ydraiou visited on Tuesday morning the works for the energy upgrade of the General High Schools and the repair of the 1st and 5th Junior High Schools of the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality in order to see their progress as they started a while ago.
More specifically, the Municipality announced that the work in the high schools began when the school year ended, it is underway and is part of the ‘Energy Upgrade of Corfu Municipal School Buildings’ programme, which has a €2,325,500 budget.
Work is also being carried out for the ‘repair and maintenance of school buildings’ in 11 more schools and a €289,221 budget.
The works concern the Corfu 1st, 2nd and 3rd General High Schools, as well as the Corfu 6th and 7th Primary Schools and they started with the repair of the 1st and 2nd High Schools’ roof.
“We are solving long-standing problems”
The Mayor said that she is satisfied with these projects and that “with the completion of these energy upgrade, maintenance and repair projects, I believe that the external appearance of our schools and the conditions for our pupils and teachers will be improved to the maximum. With these projects, we are solving long-standing problems, maintaining, cleaning up, and at the same time reducing energy consumption and changing the image of our schools.”
The work to be done
The work includes maintenance, repair and renovation of the main building infrastructure both indoors and outdoors and it will be carried out in 11 more schools - the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Junior High Schools, the Liapades Junior High School, the Mantouki Vocational High School, the Korakiana schools, the Kastellani Mesi Junior High School and the General High Schools.
It is worth noting that the energy upgrade project is funded by the Ionian Islands Business Programme 2014-2020, while the maintenance and repair project is funded by the annual funding for schools.
