CORFU. The North and South Corfu Municipalities want the division of DIADEYAK.

The future of DIADEYAK is expected to be discussed at a special meeting of the Central Corfu Municipal Council. The Central Corfu Mayor and DIADEYAK President Meropi Ydraiou invited the other two Mayors of the island, Giorgos Mahimaris and Kostas Lessis, to a closed meeting on Friday.

At the meeting of the Corfu Municipal Council last Monday, councillors raised the issue of the problems in DEYAK's network, as lately the water supply problems are frequent and last many hours.

They have not been replaced

Mrs. Ydraiou said that the networks have not been maintained or replaced as they should have, resulting in damages, while she suggested holding a special meeting to examine DIADEYAK's viability and the financial data of the company, in order for everyone to be fully informed.

“The North and South Corfu Municipalities want DIADEYAK to be divided, just as Corfu was divided into separate Municipalities. We will also look at this solution and all the data so that all questions can be resolved with clear and substantiated data so that you all have the information you need,” she said.

Extension

For the time being, however, the Central Corfu Municipal Council voted to extend the operation of DIADEYAK until 31 December 2022. This happened because, according to the founding law of DIADEYAK, the company will operate for two years, and in case it has not been divided, the extension of its operation is required.

“If a municipal authority wants to proceed to the establishment of its own company, it must have received the municipal council’s decision,” said Deputy Mayor Vassilis Argyros. He explained, however, that this is not a simple process, as it requires the preparation of an economic and technical study and a series of other quite time-consuming actions.

Both Mayors want it

However, DIADEYAK’s division is something that both the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and the South Corfu Mayor Kostas Lessis want.

The operation of DIADEYAK was expected to be discussed at the meeting of the South Corfu Municipal Council on Monday afternoon. However, because the meeting was suspended, the issue will be discussed tomorrow afternoon along with the other issues on the agenda.
