€4.5 million for roadworks in northwest Corfu

CORFU. Flood protection, road safety and road accessibility works, which should be completed within 18 months.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa signed on Tuesday 19 April the contract for the ‘Improvement of rural road network in Oroi and Northwest Corfu’ project at an event at the Avliotes Cultural Society in North Corfu, stressing that the Region is standing by the society.
The project has a budget of €4,512,500 (including 24% VAT), it is funded by the Public Investment Programme and it is set to be completed within 18 months after the signing of the contract with the contracting company.
At the special event, the Regional Governor was accompanied by the Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis, the Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Kostas Zorbas, the Deputy Regional Governor for Public Health and Welfare Melita Andrioti and the Regional Council President Nikos Mouzakitis.
Also present at the event were the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, Deputy Mayors of the North Corfu Municipality, presidents of Local Councils and several representatives of various bodies.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa said that “Corfu is an island with many residents and of the most important ones in Greek tourism. It is a global destination and it must meet the expectations of both its residents and visitors. I am particularly satisfied, because we are implementing our commitments to improve the road network in North Corfu, thus ensuring greater safety for citizens and development prospects. To date, the contracted works in North Corfu are over €8.5 million.”
The roadworks concern the maintenance and improvement of the secondary roads in North Corfu and, in particular, the road network in Oroi and Northwest Corfu.
In particular, the works will be carried out in the following areas: Lakones, Makrades, Vistonas, Pagi, Arkadades, Dafni, Armenades, Temenades, Kavadades, Magoulades, Arillas, Afionas, Avliotes, Peroulades, Ano and Kato Korakiana, Sokraki, Zygos, Sgourades, Episkepsi, Klimatia, Sfakera, Roda, Nymphes, Agioi Douloi, Petalia, Trimodi, Lafki, Spartylas, Strinilas, Perithia, Loutses, etc.
The project includes works to make roads more accesible, as well as works required to bring the accompanying flood protection works back to satisfactory operation and repair the existing ones or carry out new necessary accompanying technical works. It also includes necessary road safety works.
