Details of the new measures to offset increased fuel prices.
Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and Deputy Minister Theodoros Skilakakis announced the new support measures to offset increased fuel prices.
Fuel subsidy
Mr. Staikouras said, "We won't be helping all the social groups but focussing on the middle class and vulnerable groups." He said that those who will be entitled to the aid will tax residents of Greece with a declared income of up to €30k.
- 60 litres of fuel per month will be subsidised at €0.22 per litre.
- For island areas it will go up to €0.27 per litre.
- Diesel will be directly subsidised €0.15 per litre.
- In April, a €200 allowance will be granted to taxis.
Deputy Finance Minister Theodoros Skilakakis said that an online card (similar to the freedom pass) will be issued, which can be used at filling stations and for those that can't use a smartphone, it will be possible for the money to be deposited in a bank account of their choice.

Fuel card: The subsidy for fuel (unleaded and heating oil) will be provided in April to cover increased prices in the months of April, May and June for the following individuals (including self-employed):
- Tax residents of Greece with a declared income of up to €30k.
- An online card (similar to the freedom pass) will be issued, which can be used at filling stations and for those that can't use a smartphone, it will be possible for the money to be deposited in a bank account of their choice.
- The beneficiary will declare the vehicle for which the subsidy is being received on the gov.gr platform, including details of part or full ownership or long-term lease.
- Each vehicle can only be registered by one person and each person can only register one vehicle. The vehicle must be on the road and insured.
- 60 litres of fuel per month (for a car) will be subsidised at €0.22 per litre - giving a total of €40 for three months.
- For those living in island areas the total for three months comes to €50 (€0.28 per litre).
- For owners of motorcycles the subsidy comes to €30 for those living on the mainland and €35 for those living on islands.
Diesel and taxis
Diesel will be directly subsidised with €0.15 per litre. It is thus expected that, based on current prices, the final price will be reduced from €2 to €1.85 per litre. Price control, especially for petrol and diesel, is considered necessary to control supply chain prices. The cost for April is estimated to be approximately €23m.
In April, a €200 allowance will be granted to taxis to cover the increased fuel prices in March and April. This will cover 18,600 taxi owners and drivers and will cost €5.7m.
Installments for the payment of the so-called repayable advances (repayment of government loans) are increased to 96 from 60. The 15% discount on the one-off repayment remains.
