From Torre del Greco to the Tanzanian Albinos

ROME. An optics company from the Greek-speaking region of Torre del Greco in southern Italy donated glasses and lenses to the Tanzania Albinism Society.
Due to the relations between the citizens of Italy and Tanzania, Ambassador Marco Lombardi spoke at the ceremony for the donation of glasses and lenses to the Tanzania Albinism Society from Mario Giordano and Alfonso Vitiello's Optics of D'Elia, a Torre del Greco Optics Company.
Mr. Lombardi, expressed his deep appreciation for the importance of the “People-to-People” relations between Italy and Tanzania and emphasised how they are adding value to the already excellent bilateral relations between the two countries. He also expressed his hope that such gestures may become more and more common.
Greek origin
Torre del Greco is a community in Naples. The locals are sometimes called Corallini because of the once abundant corals in the nearby sea and because the town has been a major producer of coral jewellery and brooches since the seventeenth century.
Historically part of Magna Graecia, the area was first colonised by ancient Greeks. In Roman times, Torre del Greco was probably a suburb of Herculaneum. In 79 AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried the area under volcanic ash.
